X-Men Fans Want MCU To Adapt This Iconic Storyline After Casting Adam Driver

Marvel fans have expressed wishes for the MCU to adapt a specific comic book story. This comes following Adam Driver’s casting in the X-Men reboot. With Driver playing the villain Mister Sinister in the film, some fans theorize that the film could be, or is setting up to, adapt X-Men: Inferno. Marvel Studios is currently building out the cast for the reboot, with it scheduled to hit theaters in 2028.

Before the MCU’s reboot even hits theaters, the studio has already begun laying the groundwork for its future mutant saga stories. Sadie Sink was introduced as the MCU’s Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Given that previous films have already adapted the Phoenix saga storyline several times, fans are hoping the MCU adapts X-Men: Inferno instead, which features Jean Grey and Mister Sinister prominently.

What happens in the Inferno X-Men event?

Inferno was a supernatural X-Men crossover event that started in 1989, with its effects rippling through several issues of The Uncanny X-Men, X-Factor, Excalibur, The New Mutants, and more. One of the key story threads in it involves Jean Grey’s clone, Madelyne Pryor, learning about her true origin, which ties into Mister Sinister.

“Let Hellfire stand on its own, build Sinister through Mutant Massacre/Inferno, and develop Jean properly before Phoenix,” wrote user @anomegamutant on social media.

The event kicks off with two demons, S’ym and N’astirh, starting an invasion of Earth. In the ensuing struggle, N’astirh makes a deal with Madelyne Pryor to find her son, Cable. Eventually, Madelyne discovers that she is a clone of Jean Grey, created by Mister Sinister to torment Cyclops. The story concludes with Madelyne and Jean in a battle, with the latter emerging victorious. In its aftermath, Madelyne’s memories are transferred to Jean, vowing revenge on Sinister. The story concludes with Scott Summers killing Sinister.

The majority of the X-Men films before Disney acquired the rights to the characters focused on the ideological battle between Professor X and Magneto. With Sinister debuting in the MCU’s X-Men film, it will mark the character’s first live-action appearance in a feature film.

Marvel Studios’ X-Men film will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.
