A new rumor might be hinting at how Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie might bring disappointment for Magneto fans. The character of Magneto is a central part of the franchise’s history. However, the MCU might choose to move towards a new path with one of its biggest villains.
According to recent reports from The Cosmic Circus, the rumored upcoming MCU X-Men movie might deviate from one of the most familiar conflicts. Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants might not remain in the central focus.
During a Patreon/Discord Q&A session, per The Cosmic Circus, insider Alex Perez stated, “I’m going to be very frank and tell you straight up that I’m the last person you guys should be asking for casting information about. That said, from the very little I’ve heard about the development of this film, they kind of wanted to deviate away from the whole “Magneto and the Brotherhood” trope and focus on other villains that haven’t been seen before. Sinister being at the top of Feige’s list.”
Perez further reflected on the matter and shared his interpretation, stating that the MCU might not be “actively looking for anybody who is part of the Brotherhood for the X-Men’s first outing.” Giving some hope to Magneto fans, he added, “MAYBE Magneto if they want to establish he exists, but we’ll see how that goes.”
What else do we know about the new X-Men movie?
With Disney acquiring 20th Century Fox in 2019, the rights to the X-Men have been regained by Marvel. Following that, in the recent past, Marvel has already introduced mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2022, Professor Charles Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart, made a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Following that, Deadpool and Wolverine was released by Marvel Entertainment in 2024. And now, Sadie Sink has joined the MCU as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
While a release date for a new X-Men movie has not yet been announced by the MCU, casting has begun for a few major roles. According to Deadline, Samara Weaving will be playing the role of Emma Frost. Kit Connor might reportedly be cast as Cyclops, and Ian McKellen might be joining the universe as Magneto in Avengers: Doomsday, per Deadline.
While the MCU’s next big project, Avengers: Doomsday, is scheduled to hit the theaters on December 18, 2026, no news regarding the production of rumored X-Men movies has been announced.
