Shrek 5 has reached a key point in its production. Director Conrad Vernon confirmed that voice recording has wrapped for the DreamWorks sequel.
This news brings the movie one step closer to its planned theatrical release next year. Vernon also teased that more casting announcements are still coming.
Zendaya, Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo have already joined the cast as Shrek and Fiona’s triplets. However, Vernon confirmed that several other casting announcements have not been revealed yet.

Vernon shared the update during an exclusive Zoom interview with SYFY Wire. He said the cast is excited to return, with Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy back as Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey, respectively.
While celebrating the 10th anniversary of Sausage Party, he said, “I think it’s turning out really good. It’s pretty funny, but we’ll see when it comes out. I’m trying to think if there’s anything I can tease, but nothing that hasn’t already been put out there.”
The director also talked about bringing the OG cast back together. He added, “Getting the gang back together has been great. We just finished up our last recording sessions. All the main characters (Mike, Eddie, Cameron) are ecstatic about being back in the saddle with Shrek.”
Vernon previously directed Shrek 2 with Kelly Asbury and Andrew Adamson. He expressed feeling strange yet enjoyable on returning to the franchise after so many years.
Venom shared, “It’s like going back to high school, but all your friends have graduated. You’re like – Yeah, I remember this room. I remember those lockers, and I remember standing in line here for lunch, but it’s different people. So yeah, it was a little weird, but it’s great. I’ve had a really good time on this movie.”
Vernon also stated that Shrek 5 will retain the “edgy humor mixed with heart” formula of the franchise. He did not reveal any specific story details.
Shrek 5 is expected to focus on Shrek and Fiona’s family as their children grow older. The computer-animated adventure fantasy comedy film is set to hit theaters on June 30, 2027.
