Lanterns: Kyle Chandler Would Use His DCU Powers Very Differently Than Hal Jordan

Kyle Chandler has recently revealed how he wants to utilize his Green Lantern powers. Interestingly, Chandler’s methods are very different than that of Hal Jordan’s.

In a recent episode of Friday Night Lights Reunion, Chandler was asked what he would do if he actually had a power ring in real life. Replying to the same, the Lanterns actor pointed out that he would continue to make morning coffee for his wife.

The 60-year-old stated, “I would get my wife a cup of coffee that I have to make her every single morning of our marriage and I just make it right there and hand it to her and go back to sleep. Okay, that’s what I’d do.”

Well, this is quite contrary to how Hal Jordan has been portrayed in the comics. Jordan was unmarried and had a history of frequently breaking up with his partner, which is surely not the case with Chandler.

Hal Jordan’s complicated history with Carol Ferris sets him apart

In the comics, Hal Jordan is in a relationship with Carol Ferris. However, their bonding does not follow the path any traditional couple would. While Jordan has hinted at his love for Ferris on numerous occasions, his relationship with his partner has been on and off. Taking on the responsibility of being a space cop, Jordan has famously never married Ferris. Additionally, the character also breaks up with Ferris on multiple occasions.

Thus, Chandler’s take on how he would treat his partner came as a drastic change. In the upcoming HBO Max series, Chandler will work closely with Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart. While the trailer has shown the inclusion of cosmic powers, the plot of the show will be centered around an Earth-based murder investigation. In the latest DCU release, the character of Ferris is heavily rumored to be featured. However, there has been no official announcement so far.

Lanterns will drop on August 16, 2026.
