DC fans bracing for bad news about two long-promised TV projects on Waller and Wonder Woman can breathe a little easier. Despite recent reports suggesting the shows were scrapped entirely, the reality is more nuanced, as both remain alive, just not moving as fast as once expected.
Waller and Paradise Lost may not be dead
As DC gears up for the Sunday premiere of its newest HBO series, two other in-the-works shows have quietly slowed down. Waller, the Peacemaker spinoff centered on Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller, is no longer in active development at HBO.
The project was originally billed as one of the first TV efforts of DC’s new era, but it’s since lost priority status. Still, it hasn’t been shelved for good; it remains in development at DC Studios, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Paradise Lost, the Wonder Woman-adjacent series exploring the Amazons of Themyscira, is following a similar path. The show has taken a backseat at HBO, though sources indicate it could still move forward down the line.
Both projects were first announced by DC Studios co-head James Gunn in January 2023, as part of a broader slate reveal. Waller was written by Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver, and was set to feature members of Team Peacemaker. Paradise Lost, meanwhile, was pitched as a politically charged drama exploring “the genesis and political intrigue of an island of all women.”
Other shows unveiled at the same time, including Creature Commandos, Peacemaker season 2, and this weekend’s premiere, have already made it to screens. While a separate project remains in development and is searching for a writer.
All in all, with eight projects tied to DC Studios’ first storytelling chapter, and several already released or in production, Waller and Paradise Lost appear to be cases of delayed timelines rather than cancellations for now.
