Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Update Isn’t What Star Wars & Ewan McGregor Fans Want to Hear

Star Wars star Ewan McGregor has stated that he doesn’t “think” that Lucasfilm is any closer to moving forward with Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. The actor reprised the role in the 2022 miniseries and has since expressed a desire to return in the future.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, McGregor spoke about the prospect of a second season. “I don’t think we are [closer to season 2],” he said. “No, there seems to be no progress in that direction, but I would like to think that there might be. Because how we finished the series with me walking off with Liam Neeson on my camel, an Eopie, and then what happens between then and when [I’m played by] Alec Guinness.”

What was the first season of the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show about?

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 followed the titular character on an adventure with Princess Leia. The series was set during the 10-year-gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The show explored Obi-Wan’s conflicting feelings about his former protégé Anakin Skywalker, now turned into Darth Vader. It ended with Obi-Wan introducing himself to Luke Skywalker on Tatooine and meeting the Force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn.

Most recently, McGregor shared his take on what he would want to explore in a potential second season of the series. When audiences meet Obi-Wan in 1977’s A New Hope, the character was revealed to be in a self-imposed exile, hiding his true identity from Luke.

The Scottish actor and filmmaker will be next seen in The End of Oak Street, releasing later this month.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 is streaming on Disney+. Lucasfilm has yet to announce Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. Meanwhile, Star Wars will return to the big screen with Star Wars: Starfighter next year.
