After X-Men, Samara Weaving Cast in Sony’s Zelda Movie — Report

Samara Weaving has reportedly joined the cast of Sony and Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. The news comes after her apparent casting as Emma Frost in Marvel’s X-Men reboot, which is a shift from horror star to blockbuster regular.

Industry scooper The Beyond Reporter broke the story. The outlet does not yet know which character Weaving will play. Bo Bragason already occupies the role of Princess Zelda, so fans have begun speculating about alternatives. Many veteran gamers believe Weaving could play one of the Great Fairies. Across multiple Zelda games, these magical beings offer Link healing, guidance, and mystical gifts, often displaying flamboyant personalities. The role would give Weaving room to lean into the wackier performance style she has showcased in previous work.

Filming for The Legend of Zelda wrapped in April, well ahead of its 2027 release date. This production timeline eliminates any risk of scheduling clashes with the X-Men reboot, which has yet to begin shooting. Director Jake Schreier will helm the Marvel project, while Wes Ball directs the Zelda adaptation. Ball previously described his approach to the beloved Nintendo property with a balance of fan awareness and personal conviction.

Overall, Sony has assembled a popular cast around the Hyrule fantasy. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth leads as Link, with Bragason playing Princess Zelda. Uli Latukefu takes on the villain Ganondorf, while Dichen Lachman portrays Impa, the royal bodyguard and advisor. Yvonne Strahovski and the late Sam Neill round out the cast in undisclosed roles. Many speculate that Neill appears as the King of Hyrule.

Samara Weaving’s career trajectory has accelerated. She first got attention on the Australian soap Home and Away, then built a reputation through horror films including The Babysitter, Mayhem, and Ready or Not.
