Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man will reportedly team up in Avengers: Secret Wars. According to @MyTimeToShineHello on X (formerly Twitter), “Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man will reportedly have a quest together in Avengers Secret Wars.” The scooper added that the two legacy characters “are looking for something” during their joint storyline.

This new report marks a shift in the dynamic between the two characters. Earlier rumors placed Wolverine and Spider-Man on opposite sides in Avengers: Doomsday. A previous report from the same scooper stated, “In Avengers Doomsday, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man fights Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine while their Earths are about to crash into each other.” That film’s opening sequence reportedly features Maguire’s Spider-Man battling the Fox X-Men.

However, their relationship appears to evolve by the time Secret Wars begins. The two characters reportedly transition from adversaries to allies across the two films. Avengers: Secret Wars currently has a release date of December 17, 2027. The Russo Brothers direct the film, with Stephen McFeely writing the script.

The confirmed cast for Secret Wars already includes several major names. Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom, while Chris Evans reprises his role as Steve Rogers. Benedict Cumberbatch, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Anthony Mackie also star in the sequel. Sadie Sink joins the cast as Jean Grey after her debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus previously reported that Maguire’s Spider-Man does not die in Avengers: Doomsday. This detail supports the possibility of his continued involvement in Secret Wars. Neither Hugh Jackman nor Tobey Maguire has received official confirmation from Marvel Studios for their roles. The studio has not commented on any plot details for either Avengers film at this time.
