X-Men: MCU’s Cyclops Casting Has Fans Debating What This Means for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine

It has been revealed that English actor Kit Connor will portray the popular role of Cyclops/Scott Summers in the rebooted X-Men movie by Jake Schreier. The news, which was reported by Deadline, comes at a time when X-Men fans are speculating on Hugh Jackman‘s future as Wolverine.

After Sadie Sink’s reveal as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, two more X-Men characters have been nearly confirmed as well in the MCU. Besides Connor, Ready or Not star Samara Weaving has been reportedly cast as Emma Frost. However, an official confirmation is yet to arrive from Marvel.

Why X-Men’s Cyclops casting is a big deal for the MCU

Notably, all three of these actors, Connor, Sink and Weaving, are quite young, which makes sense given the fact that the MCU will introduce a new batch of X-Men characters in Schreier’s movie. Now, several fans are speculating about Hugh Jackman’s MCU future as Wolverine, considering the storyline in the comics where Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Wolverine have shared a love triangle.

In case Marvel follows such a narrative, then Jackman’s version of Wolverine might not be suitable to romance Jean Grey, played by Sadie Sink, who is a lot younger than the 57-year-old Australian icon. That’s why someone young may appear as Wolverine in the MCU, according to the latest fan theories. One fan, named @xpertfusion3, wrote that Jackman’s version will soon get sent back “to his universe and they will occasionally do new movies with him, probably also with Deadpool.”

Another fan, @swagger_nas, shared a similar take, saying, “Hugh only will be the multiverse wolverine we are getting a younger actor soon”

Another user, @TaperingRhyme91, speculated that the characters from the Fox X-Men franchise, including Jackman’s Wolverine, will get a send-off in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars to pave the way for younger actors. They wrote, “I feel like Jean is the start of a new X-Men cast with younger actors, so she wouldn’t be paired with Hugh’s Wolverine””

Another curious fan, @KitarachiTV, wrote, “They will introduce a younger wolverine at some point I bet.”

The X-Men reboot movie in the MCU is expected to hit theaters at some point in 2028.
