Toy Story 5 just joined an exclusive 2026 club, and it did it better than anyone else. The Pixar sequel has reached a massive box office milestone that only two other films achieved this year, pulling it off in a fraction of the time.
Toy Story 5 goes past a billion to beat Michael and Mario
Toy Story 5 has officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo. The Pixar sequel has earned $1.022 billion globally, surpassing both The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael in total gross. It also reached the milestone significantly faster than either competitor.
The animated sequel opened domestically on June 19 with a $159.6 million debut weekend. That figure topped The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s $131.7 million domestic opening in April. It also exceeded Michael’s $97.2 million opening from later that same month. Toy Story 5 currently holds $448.5 million domestically and $573.5 million internationally.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which released on April 1, has grossed $1.011 billion worldwide to date. Michael, the biographical film about musician Michael Jackson, opened on April 22 and sits at $1.010 billion globally. Both films took nearly three months to reach billion-dollar territory. Toy Story 5 accomplished the feat in roughly five weeks of release.
Domestically, Toy Story 5 leads all three films with a 43.9% domestic split. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie holds a 42.5% domestic share with $429.8 million. Michael trails domestically at $372.3 million but commands a stronger 63.1% international split. Internationally, Michael leads in several key territories including the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia.
Toy Story 5 has performed especially well in Latin America, earning $71.3 million in Mexico alone. The film still awaits wide release in Germany and Austria, scheduled for late July. Additional markets could further widen the gap between the three billion-dollar earners of 2026.
