After a casting rumor about which actor will be playing the DCU’s new Batman went viral, the original source of the rumor has backtracked on his claims. An earlier report suggested that DC Studios had secretly chosen its new Caped Crusader, sparking a lot of online buzz. However, that excitement appears to be diminishing after the latest update.
John Campea backtracks on DC’s Batman casting report
Earlier this week, Canadian YouTuber John Campea claimed on a live stream that he knew who had been cast as Batman in the DCU. Despite noting that multiple sources had confirmed it, he never named the actor. Later, a popular scooper, MyTimeToShineHello, reposted Campea’s clip and said that Tom Brittney was cast as the superhero.
In his latest livestream, however, Campea addressed the viral speculation. “I’m a f****** nobody,” he said.
Campea argued that news outlets should not take the “random things” he says and treat them as news. He noted that his original comments were in response to a viewer’s question about Batman, and that he never intended them to be taken as an official casting confirmation.
He added that he plans to dedicate a full show to discussing everything he’s heard about the Batman casting, but stressed that none of it should be considered definitive. “I don’t know a 100%…. I’m not in the room,” Campea said.
Naturally, fans are eager to learn who will play the Dark Knight in James Gunn’s DCU. While DC co-CEO Peter Safran has confirmed that the superhero will be introduced into the DCU through an adaptation of The Brave and the Bold, the studio has yet to reveal who will take on the iconic role.
With no official announcement from DC Studios yet, fans will likely have to wait until Gunn or Safran confirms the casting.
