The Odyssey Already Sets Record That’ll Help Its Box Office

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has set a new record that will likely boost its box office numbers, per a new report. The action-adventure epic is one of 2026’s biggest releases, with anticipation continuing to grow ahead of its theatrical release.

The Odyssey has reportedly sold most first-day advanced PLF tickets at AMC in four years

The Odyssey has reportedly sold the highest first-day advance PLF ticket sales at AMC, as per Deadline. This is the biggest sale for the theater chain in the last four years for a major studio movie.

Moreover, it has outweighed all first-day presales for a major theatrical film release since 2022. Furthermore, AMC has recorded it as the best first-day PLF sales year to date for a studio feature.

Wait times to purchase presale tickets on the AMC websites reportedly went as long as an hour, eventually dropping to eight minutes. However, other theater chains, Regal and Cinemark, on the other hand, supposedly did not suffer from long wait times.

AMC CEO Adam Aron apologized for this. He assured fans on X (formerly Twitter) that there were “MILLIONS more available seats.”

Only music-oriented movies, released by AMC Theatres Distribution, outclassed The Odyssey AMC first-day ticket sales. These were Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, both released in 2023.

Universal Pictures, which will distribute the film in theaters, did something unusual when they put IMAX 70mm and 70mm tickets on sale one year before release. These were eventually quickly sold out, reportedly generating $1.5 million (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The Odyssey premieres in theaters on July 17, 2026. In addition to directing, Nolan wrote the screenplay. He also co-produced with his wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas, via their production banner, Syncopy.

The film will reportedly run for 172 minutes/two hours and 52 minutes. This aligns with Thomas’ confirmation that it would be under three hours.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, marking the actor’s third collaboration with Nolan following Interstellar and Oppenheimer. The supporting cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron, among others.
