A new report indicates that two key characters could have pivotal roles in Avengers: Doomsday. An official full-length trailer has yet to be released, but several character-specific teasers have come out. The new update hints at the upcoming film’s plot and which Avengers will be driving forces.
Two new Avengers leaders rumored to be crucial to Doomsday’s plot
According to MyTimeToShineHello, a popular scooper on X (formerly Twitter), Yelena Belova and Sam Wilson will be two of the driving forces for Avengers: Doomsday’s story. Although MTTSH has been a reliable source of Marvel-related news in the past, these claims should currently be treated as rumors.
The first post from the scooper stated, “Sam will have a decent role in Avengers Doomsday!”
Notably, Sam is the current Captain America after Steve Rogers passed on the shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. But with Chris Evans reprising his role, it will be interesting to see how things pan out.
Next, the MTTSH posted, “Yelena is the female hero with the biggest role in Avengers Doomsday.”
Further details about how Yelena fits into the story remain under wraps. She was last seen in 2025’s Thunderbolts* post-credits scene. In it, she and the New Avengers were notified about an approaching extradimensional ship, which turns out to be the Fantastic Four’s Excelsior.
Both posts have received mixed reactions from fans. While some acknowledge that Sam can be a major part of the story, others believe he still needs a stronger character arc. Meanwhile, some fans were surprised by reports that Yelena would have a major role. This is mainly because they expected Sue Storm to be at the center of the plot.
Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026. It is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, with a script from Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely.
