The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s Keegan Michael-Key on if he could reprise Toad in a game and spin-off
While no official spin-off has been announced, Keegan-Michael Key believes there is still plenty of unexplored material within the Mario universe. The actor, who voices Toad in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, recently addressed his future in the franchise.
Speaking during an interview with ComingSoon, Key expressed strong enthusiasm about continuing his involvement in the Mario franchise beyond the films. The actor said he would be eager to reprise Toad in a video game if one were developed based on or inspired by the movies. “Oh, yeah. I’d be more than happy. If they now fashioned a video game that was somehow influenced or inspired by the movies, I would be all in. I would love to do that,” he said.
The actor also voiced support for potential spin-off projects centered on Toad’s backstory or Princess Peach’s early years in the Mushroom Kingdom. According to Key, “And by the way, and also if they made a Toad origin story or the Mushroom Kingdom raising Peach to be who she is, I’d be open to that.”
He also noted he would welcome the opportunity to return in any future project connected to the franchise. “I’d be open to anything in regard to this universe. I love the team that I work with. I love the other talented, gifted performers that are in the movies. I’m all in, man. I’m all in.”
For now, no additional spin-offs have been officially announced.
