Rosamund Pike discusses the prospects of The Wheel of Time Season 4
In a new interview with Collider, Rosamund Pike addressed the future of The Wheel of Time following its surprise cancellation and confirmed she still hopes the series will continue elsewhere. Pike said she is “grieving the end of the series,” while also expressing optimism about a potential revival. “In my dreams, another studio would be wise and pick it up,” she stated.
Pike discussed the challenges that affected the show’s early development and reception. “The fans said Season 1 wasn’t good enough, which I think I agree with, for multiple reasons,” she said, citing the COVID-19 shutdown and shifts in key departments. She added, “Then, by Season 2, we knew what we were doing, and we offered up a much better season.”
She emphasized that the creative team reached full momentum by the third season. “By Season 3, I think we had our wings fully spread, and we were showing where we were capable of going,” Pike explained. According to her, Season 3 became “a well-acted, well-written, cohesive, deep show” that drew “powerhouse actors” to join the ensemble.
Pike also addressed the timing of the cancellation. “Of course, you wonder, had we started off at that place, would we not have been canceled? Maybe,” she said. She added, “I think we’re possibly victims to the terrible churn factor of people wanting to show that ‘We’ve got a new show.’ It’s all about what’s new.”
Pike confirmed the cast and crew remain close following the decision. She shared that they are “unusually close,” noting continued dinners and messages with colleagues, including showrunner Rafe Judkins. She reiterated her willingness to continue in the universe, saying, “We know what to do with these books now, so who knows? But I think we have to accept that it’s over.”
