In sharp contrast to popular online speculations, HBO’s Harry Potter series will not feature a narrator. Aside from the recent cast announcements, rumors on the internet had previously claimed that Tom Turner would provide voice-over to the events that unfold in the upcoming reboot of the fan-favorite wizard franchise. Nevertheless, the latest reports have debunked this theory, invalidating the inclusion of such a part in the much-awaited show.
HBO sources confirm Harry Potter series won’t have a narrator
According to a recent report, the Harry Potter series will not have a narrator at all.
Talks of the show having an actor narrate the lore of the Potter universe first rose to prominence after an update from Redanian Intelligence, a major source for rumors about House of the Dragon and The Witcher.
In an October 31 report, the news outlet claimed that Tom Turner of The Crown, Beauty and the Beast, and Anatomy of a Scandal fame had been roped in as the narrator of the series. Several other Harry Potter forums, aggregator accounts, and British media channels also helped fuel the fire about the said casting, adding on to Redanian Intelligence’s claims.
However, HBO sources have since confirmed to Deadline that the forthcoming Harry Potter series has not cast the British actor in the role of a narrator.
At the time of writing, the confirmed cast members of the reboot include Dominic McLaughlin as the titular character, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
The creative duo of Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod has taken up executive producing responsibilities. Gardiner will also serve as writer and showrunner for the series. Meanwhile, Mylod will be helming multiple episodes of the reboot show.
While the Harry Potter series has yet to receive an official release date, it is currently on track to debut on HBO sometime in 2027.
