Unreleased photos from Daredevil: Born Again reveal Jon Bernthal fully suited as the Punisher, wielding weapons and striking intense poses in a dark studio. The new images give fans their first look at Frank Castle’s return to the MCU, teasing the brutal tone and street-level action that will define his comeback.

The images, posted on X (formerly Twitter) by user @variablelace, show Bernthal in a black tactical outfit with the character’s signature white skull emblem. In one shot, he holds an axe under a spotlight; in another, he poses with a rifle slung over his shoulder. Additional photos feature him crouching with a focused expression and raising a hammer while shouting, each taken in a dimly lit studio setting.
Unused promotional shots from the first season of Daredevil: Born Again surfaced online, showing Jon Bernthal in action as the Punisher. Fans quickly circulated the images on social media, creating memes from Bernthal’s intense poses. He first portrayed the Punisher in Netflix’s Daredevil Season 2 and later led his own series in 2017 and 2019.
Bernthal returns as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He will also headline a Punisher Special Presentation on Disney+. Marvel’s head of streaming Brad Winderbaum called the project “a shotgun blast of a story” that still delivers “all the pathos and emotion” of Frank Castle’s journey.
Winderbaum said the concept for the Special Presentation developed during production on Born Again. That storyline brought Matt Murdock and Castle together against Wilson Fisk’s anti-vigilante task force. He called Bernthal “a generational actor” who “knows the character inside and out” (via Entertainment Weekly). Winderbaum praised his ability to bring the Punisher into Marvel’s broader street-level universe.
Bernthal co-wrote the script with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green, who also directs the project.
