James Gunn, the director of Superman and co-CEO of DC Studios, recently gave fans a glimpse behind the scenes of Peacemaker Season 2. The filmmaker shared a lighthearted photo from the set. It features him alongside two of the show’s newest cast members.
James Gunn poses with Nicholas Hoult and Frank Grillo for Peacemaker
The image shared by James Gunn on X (formerly Twitter) was taken during the filming of Episode 6, officially titled “Ignorance Is Chris,” though Gunn jokingly referred to it in his caption as “The Scorpion and the Frog.” He wrote, “Shooting Episode 6 of #Peacemaker with a really great guy and also Frank Grillo. Finale airs this Thursday on @StreamOnMax.”
The picture shows Hoult dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, Gunn in a black shirt and glasses, and Grillo in a black polo t-shirt. The set background suggests a prison location, consistent with recent Peacemaker stills showing Chris Smith behind bars. Gunn’s post follows the release of official finale photos teasing A.R.G.U.S.’ involvement with the Quantum Unfolding Chamber and Lex Luthor’s cameo appearance.
In Peacemaker Season 2, John Cena reprises his role as Chris Smith, joined by Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Frank Grillo, and Sol Rodríguez. Hoult appears as Lex Luthor, connecting the series to Gunn’s wider DC Universe. The upcoming finale, “Full Nelson,” will explore the consequences of Smith’s surrender after his capture.
Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the season and directed three, including the premiere. He serves as executive producer alongside Peter Safran and John Cena. The other directors are Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones.
The Peacemaker Season 2 finale streams this Thursday on HBO Max, concluding the show’s second chapter. It also sets up future developments within Gunn’s interconnected DC Universe, including ties to the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.
