The Batman Part II remains the talk of the town, with the highly anticipated sequel from DC Studios and Matt Reeves set to finally begin production in 2026. However, there’s another Batman movie in the works, The Brave and the Bold, and some key behind-the-scenes details about the superhero blockbuster were recently reaffirmed during a fan’s chance encounter with filmmaker Andy Muschietti.
Is Andy Muschietti still directing The Brave and the Bold?
X user @Gotham2739 recently posted a photo of himself and Muschietti, having run into the filmmaker at a bar over the weekend. While their interaction was brief, the X user revealed that he asked Muschietti about The Brave and the Bold, a live-action DC Studios movie that will introduce Batman to James Gunn’s DC Universe. While @Gotham2739 didn’t press Muschietti for more concrete details, he was able to confirm that the filmmaker remains attached to direct The Brave and the Bold.
The X user also shared that The Brave and the Bold will “not go into production soon,” as The Batman Part II takes priority, and that Muschietti has been kept in the loop about the DCU movie having a writer working on the script, with the filmmaker reportedly telling the fan that he is “aware of the story.”
Muschietti has been attached to The Brave and the Bold since June 2023. The movie, which is expected to be part of the DCU’s Chapter 1, will pull inspiration from writer Grant Morrison and artist Andy Kubert’s run on DC Comics’ Batman, specifically the 2006 comic book story arc, “Batman and Son.” The storyline focuses on Bruce Wayne learning that he has fathered a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul, the daughter of his nemesis, Ra’s al Ghul.
With The Batman Part II set to begin filming earlier next year, with Robert Pattinson returning in the title role, no casting for The Brave and the Bold has been announced yet. However, that hasn’t stopped several notable actors from publicly voicing their interest in taking on the role of the Dark Knight, such as Alan Ritchson (Reacher) and Brandon Sklenar (1923).
The Brave and the Bold does not yet have a release window.
