James Gunn addressed fan questions about Peacemaker Season 2 following its latest episode. He responded to comments about Earth X’s storyline and revealed new details about Auggie Smith’s moral stance in the alternate universe.
James Gunn says Earth X’s Auggie Smith opposed ‘what the Nazis are doing’
In a Threads post responding to fans, Gunn wrote, “Well Auggie is generally a good human being who is opposed to what the Nazis are doing. But Keith (and Chris 2), well… I don’t know. Sometimes the apples fall very far from the tree — on both Earths!”
His statement clarified that this version of Auggie significantly differs from the main DCU timeline, which portrays the character as a racist antagonist.

The revelation came after Episode 7’s release, which showed that Earth X’s Auggie, also known as Blue Dragon, opposed the regime’s atrocities. He only wanted to send Peacemaker and his allies safely back to their world. Prior to his death, Auggie told Chris and Emilia Harcourt that he fought “the madman murderers and monsters in front of [him] because that’s all [he] can control.” His confrontation ended tragically when Vigilante shot him during a rescue attempt.
Fans reacted strongly to the twist. Many expressed shock when Auggie and Keith appeared as “the actual good guys.” Others questioned whether Auggie’s refusal to fight the regime directly made him complicit. The episode closed with Chris breaking down after he witnessed Auggie’s death, reflecting the trauma he carried from killing his father in Season 1. Viewers pointed out parallels between both versions of the character, emphasizing how each arc deepened Peacemaker’s struggle with guilt and redemption.
James Gunn created, wrote, and directed Peacemaker Season 2. It premiered on August 21, 2025. The finale will stream on October 9, 2025, featuring John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks, and Steve Agee.
