The first reactions to Marvel Zombies have come in, and although it is garnering praise for the gore, critics don’t seem impressed with its plot. The R-rated animated series will arrive on Disney+ on September 24, 2025. It is created by Zeb Wells and Bryan Andrews.

Critics recently shared their first reactions to Marvel Zombies online, and it seems to have passed the brutality test. However, besides all the acclaim it is getting for its action, the plot of the series is being called out.
Marvel Zombies features the voices of numerous stars. It includes Elizabeth Olsen, Florence Pugh, Simu Liu, Iman Vellani, and more. The show’s synopsis reads, “After the Avengers are overtaken by a zombie plague, a desperate group of survivors discover the key to bringing an end to the super-powered undead, racing across a dystopian landscape and risking life and limb to save their world.”
Erik Swann of CinemaBlend wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “While #MarvelZombies isn’t essential MCU viewing, it’s a mostly entertaining side story featuring a ragtag team fighting to survive the apocalypse.” “The chosen assortment of main characters makes for a fun mix, and fans who are looking for a bit of gore should be satisfied,” he added.
Reviewer Josh Barton of Barton Reviews stated, “MarvelZombies is a blood-soaked and epic animation event that sees plenty of heroes both dish out and receive gory violence like there’s no tomorrow. It’s a little throwaway in places but there’s a number of emotionally charged moments throughout that will keep you invested.”
Film critic Michael J. Lee, on the other hand, conveyed that he felt “disengaged.” He wrote, “#MarvelZombies fails to deliver fresh ideas beyond visual shock. The stakes feel abstract rather than emotionally grounded… Even the voice acting comes off phoned in.”
Further, POC Culture expressed their wish to witness more episodes for the story to develop properly and noted, “There are some truly epic moments in #MarvelZombies, but the overall story would have benefited from further development. As usual, I wish it was more than 4 episodes. We absolutely need more seasons.”
All four episodes of the show will premiere on September 24, 2025.
