Netflix has reportedly revealed the new budget figures for The Witcher franchise. The latest updates highlight record-breaking budgets and ongoing projects, while the series continues to expand across live-action, spinoffs, and animated titles.
How much Netflix spent on The Witcher franchise
Netflix has reportedly spent nearly $720 million on The Witcher franchise, making it one of its most expensive fantasy properties. According to Redanian Intelligence, The Witcher Season 4 alone carries a budget of $221 million, averaging $27 million per episode. This makes it the costliest installment so far and places its budget almost as high as that of Superman.
The earlier seasons carried significant costs. Netflix budgeted The Witcher Season 1 at $92.1 million, or $11.5 million per episode across eight episodes. Season 2 cost $176.3 million, averaging $22 million per episode, while Season 3 followed at $175 million, or $21.8 million per episode. The prequel series The Witcher: Blood Origin added $51.5 million, with about $12.8 million per episode for its limited run. Netflix also funded spinoff projects.
The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale has already cost $21 million, and the total will increase after post-production, visual effects, and final editing. With these projects combined, the franchise budget now exceeds $720 million.
The total does not yet include the animated films Nightmare of the Wolf and Sirens of the Deep, whose budgets remain undisclosed. Industry estimates indicate that once Netflix completes the entire franchise, including the anime titles and the final season, the overall cost could pass $900 million worldwide.
Netflix has placed The Witcher Season 4 in post-production for a planned 2025 release with significant expectations. Meanwhile, Andrzej Sapkowski published his latest book Crossroads of Ravens in Poland, with an international release scheduled for September 2025. CD Projekt Red confirmed that development on The Witcher 4 video game is fully underway with expanded resources.
