Gen V Season 2 Showrunner on How Marie Is [Spoiler]

Despite airing just three episodes so far, Gen V Season 2 has already delved into a significant chunk of the history behind The Boys’ universe. The most important topic to arise in the new season of Gen V seems to be the Odessa project, and its surprise link to Jaz Sinclair’s Marie Moreau. In a recent interview, Gen V showrunner Michele Fazekas expanded upon the recently discovered connection between Sinclair’s character and the Odessa operation, as well as how it could set up a potential showdown between the hemokinetic heroine and Homelander.

While speaking with Deadline, Fazekas said that through the Odessa project, the Gen V team wanted to imply that Marie’s powers could have been artificially engineered to serve a purpose, similar to Homelander.

“What we learned with this sort of Odessa thing is that, as much as in The Boys universe, these powers that come up are seemingly random, except sometimes they’re not, and you see that with Homelander,” the seasoned television producer noted.

She further added, “What we liked about sort of tying Marie to Odessa and tying it to the historic origins of these superheroes is, Godolkin University is tied to them. We sort of get into what they were there for to begin with, and how that’s actually tied to Marie. So, it all sort of pulls from the history, and now we’re seeing how it plays out.”

Notably, the first three episodes of Gen V Season 2 reveal that Marie Moreau is mysteriously linked to the Odessa project, which was established sometime in the 1960s. Viewers further learn that Marie was actually conceived through the intervention of Vought and that it was Dean Cipher who ultimately delivered her.

In a recent interview, Hamish Linklater, who plays the conniving Cipher, shed some light on his character’s intentions, stating that he “thinks [Marie is] the one who’s going to give him supremacy over the other supremacist, Homelander.”

While the exact nature of the Odessa project remains unclear so far, Linklater and Fazekas’ comments suggest that the operation could have been designed to counter someone of Homelander’s strength, with Marie residing at the center of it. With five episodes still left in the second season of Gen V, more details about the mysterious project should be revealed in the coming days.
