A new report has confirmed key casting updates for Dune 3, offering a rare glimpse into Denis Villeneuve’s evolving adaptation of Frank Herbert’s saga. The report reveals that production is gearing up for a July 2025 start, with two pivotal roles now officially filled.
Jason Momoa’s son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke cast in Dune 3
Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke have officially joined the cast of Dune 3 as Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya). The casting was confirmed by Nexus Point News, which reported the twins will appear as teenagers following a time jump in the story.
This marks the acting debut of Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, son of Jason Momoa, who returns to the franchise as Duncan Idaho. Idaho is revived as a ghola, created by Scytale and played by Robert Pattinson. Ida Brooke, who previously appeared in Silo and The Primrose Railway Children, will portray Ghanima.
Frank Herbert introduced the twins as newborns at the end of Dune Messiah (1969). Their birth causes Chani’s death, a moment Paul foresees through prescience. In Children of Dune, the twins return as nine-year-olds, challenge their aunt Alia, and overthrow her rule, ending the Corrino uprising. Leto II eventually becomes emperor and transforms into a sandworm-human hybrid in God Emperor of Dune.
Denis Villeneuve, who directed and co-wrote the first two films, returns to lead the third installment. The new film blends elements from Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. Although plot details remain undisclosed, sources reportedly indicate that the time jump could reshape the trilogy’s direction.
The production team will begin filming Dune 3 in July 2025 and continue through the end of the year. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Jason Momoa return to the cast. They’re joined by Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, and Florence Pugh. Legendary reportedly plans to release Dune 3 on December 18, 2026.
