Netflix has announced a new viewership record for its limited series Adolescence, confirming that the show has overtaken Stranger Things Season 4 in total views. The update comes as Netflix continues to highlight top-performing titles in its global rankings. The achievement marks Adolescence as a standout success in the platform’s 2025 slate.
Adolescence beats Stranger Things Season 4’s Netflix viewership record
Netflix’s limited series Adolescence has overtaken Stranger Things Season 4 to become the second most-watched English-language series in the platform’s history. As of June 1, Adolescence recorded 141.2 million views since its March 13 premiere, surpassing the 140.7 million views Stranger Things Season 4 earned during its first 91 days.
The only English-language title ahead of Adolescence is Wednesday Season 1, which leads with 252.1 million views. Netflix calculates these numbers based on total hours viewed divided by runtime, measured within a 91-day window from release.
Despite its shorter total runtime of 3 hours and 50 minutes, Adolescence accumulated 541.4 million hours viewed. In contrast, Stranger Things Season 4 logged 1.83 billion hours viewed, largely due to its 13-hour runtime. Adolescence still has days remaining in its 91-day tracking period, potentially widening its lead.
In Netflix’s overall global rankings across all languages, Adolescence currently holds the number four spot. Squid Game Season 1 remains the most-viewed series globally with 265.2 million views, followed by Wednesday and Squid Game Season 2, which garnered 192.6 million views.
For the week of May 26 to June 1, Sirens led Netflix’s global chart with 18.2 million views. Other top titles included Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders with 11.9 million views, Dept. Q with 6 million views, American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden with 5.4 million views, and Bet with 2.9 million views.
In Netflix’s all-time top 10 for English-language series, Adolescence ranks second, followed by DAHMER with 115.6 million views, Bridgerton Season 1 with 113.3 million, and The Queen’s Gambit with 112.8 million. Stranger Things Season 3 rounds out the list at 94.8 million views.
