Agents of SHIELD Star on Why Mockingbird Spin-off Got Canceled

Adrianne Palicki, who played the role of Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., recently shared why her character’s spin-off series was canceled. Agents of SHIELD. premiered on ABC in September 2013 with Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson leading a team of agents. The hit TV show went on for 7 seasons until August 2020.

Adrianne Palicki recently sat down with The Direct to promote her project The Salamander King, when she discussed the Mockingbird spin-off that never saw the light of the day.

She revealed that as per conversations that happened, she “was going to be participating in the films or have a spin-off.” The Mockingbird spin-off series, which was titled Marvel’s Most Wanted, featured Palicki as Morse and Nick Blood as Lance Hunter from Agents of SHIELD.

However, the spin-off was canceled as ABC was ending all its Marvel shows. Palicki said, “We did a spin-off that we shot, which is actually great, but I think it was at the time where ABC was literally getting rid of all of their Marvel shows. Like, ‘Agent Carter’ got taken off the air, our show didn’t get picked up, ‘Agents of SHIELD’ was on the verge of syndication, so it stayed on.”

She added, “That was a big, big bummer because I love playing Bobbi Morse. I love Mockingbird, so… And the thing that sucks is the show is really good.” The actress also conveyed that she is doubtful whether fans would ever get to watch the spin-off’s pilot and said, “I don’t think they’ll ever, ever show the Mockingbird spin-off… You know, I had to go into the producer’s office and sign something to actually watch it.”

While Palicki was unable to cross to the MCU to reprise her role as Mockingbird, Marvel already revealed that Hawkeye, aka Clint Barton’s wife, Laura, was Agent 19/Mockingbird in the MCU. The revelation happened in the finale of Hawkeye, when Barton handed over a Rolex watch with number 19 and SHIELD insignia on it to Laura and stated that she took care of her things, implying that she used to be Mockingbird in the MCU.
