Thunderbolts vs. The Avengers: Who Would Win & Which Team Is Stronger?

As Thunderbolts* approaches its May release, fans are debating whether the ragtag team of antiheroes could win a fight against the Avengers. Both teams consist of formidable individuals, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. Fans have seen the Avengers battle countless aliens, monsters, and rogue sentient AIs, but they are now wondering how the iconic superhero team would fare in a Thunderbolts vs. Avengers fight.

So, who is stronger and would win in a Thunderbolts vs. The Avengers fight? Can the Thunderbolts beat the Avengers? Here is the hypothetical fight explored.

Who is stronger and would win in a Thunderbolts vs. The Avengers fight?

The Thunderbolts team could beat the original Avengers in a hypothetical Avengers vs. Thunderbolts fight if they had Sentry amongst their ranks. However, they would likely lose if Sentry were not with them.

The Avengers have powerhouse characters like Thor, Iron Man, and Hulk among their ranks, in addition to trained fighters like Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. As such, were they to encounter the Thunderbolts (whose ranks include significantly enhanced but regular people like Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, John Walker, Taskmaster, and Ghost) without Sentry, the superhero team would outclass and easily defeat the antihero team.

On the other hand, the Thunderbolts will not only stand a chance but also be able to defeat the Avengers, were Sentry with them. This is because Sentry by himself is an incredibly powerful character whose power levels surpass the likes of Thor and Hulk, as he not only has immense strength, speed, and flight but can also turn people into shadows. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val has even mentioned in a teaser trailer that Sentry is stronger than all of the Avengers combined.

What separates the Avengers from the Thunderbolts is their moral compass. Despite including some of the most powerful superheroes in its ranks, the Avengers follow a strict moral code preventing them from killing or getting their hands dirty unless absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, the Thunderbolts, who are antiheroes or violent and sometimes crazy people at heart, have no such moral code, operating in a gray area. As such, they will have no problem killing individuals if it serves them or their missions.
