Netflix Reveals The Witcher Season 2 Production Will Resume in August

Good news coming your way, o valley of plenty! Netflix took up to Twitter to announce that The Witcher Season 2 will officially resume production on August 17. The streaming service put on on-hold production on the sophomore season of the fantasy show after Kristofer Hivju —  Game of Thrones’ Tormund — contracted coronavirus back in March. And which better way to announce the news than with one of the poems from the traveling bard, Jaskier?

“I’m dusting off my lute and quill,

I have some news, some mead to spill:

After all the months we’ve been apart

It’s time for production to restart.

The Witcher and his bard – who’s flawless,

Will reunite on set 17 August.”

In the meanwhile, Kristofer Hivju announced his full recovery from the virus on his socials. In the upcoming The Witcher Season 2, he will portray Nivellen, a man cursed with a monstrous appearance. But he won’t be the only important character within Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels to debut in the new season. Earlier this year, the producers behind The Witcher announced that Kim Bodnia is joining the series as Vesemir. Recently, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, teased that the new characters will shed new light on Geralt’s backstory.

The returning cast for the new adventures of Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia includes Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, Freya Allan’s Ciri, and Joey Batey’s unpredictable Jaskier.

The Witcher Season 2 will be available on Netflix in 2021.
