James Cameron Congratulates Avengers: Endgame on Overtaking Titanic
Records were meant to be broken, and that includes the ones set at the global box office. Last Sunday, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame overcame James Cameron’s Titanic at the global box office. In doing so, it became part of the inner circle of movies that have grossed over $2 billion globally, achieving this feat in a record 11 days.
Cameron, who directed two of the five movie with a global cume over $2 billion, saluted Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios’ achievement on Twitter. The director posted a picture of the Titanic sinking into the ocean after hitting the Avenger’s logo
“To Kevin and Everybody at Marvel,” Cameron wrote. “An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever!”
The list of movies which grossed over $2 billion globally includes Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. At the moment, Cameron’s Avatar still sits at the top position of the global box office with $2.788 billion worldwide. Now the fourth installment in the Avengers franchise only has Avatar to beat, with both franchises now being part of the same Disney family.
