CBS All Access Confirms Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek Series

Back in November, reports emerged that Star Trek: Discovery co-star, Michelle Yeoh, was in talks to headline her own spinoff series. Now, CBS All Access has made it official, and named Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt as the co-writers of the untitled spinoff.

Via ComicBook.com, Yeoh will reprise her role as Philippa Georgiou, which she originated on Discovery. In the Prime Universe, Georgiou was Michael Burnham’s mentor and captain of the Shenzhou. While Georgiou perished, her counterpart in the mirror universe lived on as the emperor. However, Georgiou was forced to flee the Mirror Universe. She later became a key ally of the Federation in the war against the Klingons. She was also recruited to join Section 31, a secretive organization that bends Federation rules to keep it alive.

Alex Kurtzman, the showrunner of Star Trek: Discovery and executive producer of the new spinoff, shared a few thoughts about the announcement.

“Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades,” said Kurtzman in a statement.  “As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her. Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”

Yeoh also expressed excitement about getting the chance to expand Georgiou’s role in the franchise.

“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories,” said Yeoh. “Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes – certainly I believe it will go ‘where no WOMAN has ever gone before!’”

Yeoh will appear in the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Discovery. Are you eager to see the latest Star Trek spinoff starring Michelle Yeoh? Let us know in the comment section below!
