It shocked many when Deadpool came away with two Golden Globe nominations, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy for star Ryan Reynolds and Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy (both of which went to La La Land), but since then the film has gone on to grab some very important nominations, including a Writer’s Guild of America award nomination for Best Adapted screenplay for Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, a Director’s Guild of America award nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Film Director for 2016 for director Tim Miller, and even a nomination for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the Producers Guild of America for producers Simon Kinberg, Ryan Reynolds, and Lauren Shuler Donner. In related Deadpool news, writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick dropped by several outlets to confirm if certain characters from the first film are set to return for the upcoming seque. The told Nerdist that Karan Soni will be back as cab driver Dopinder, revealed to Collider that Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus will at least make “an appearance,” and revealed to CraveOnline that Hydra Bob will probably be sitting the next one out.
Deadpool 2 is set to film this year for a 2018 release with what Reynolds says “is not going to be phenomenally bigger (budget).” Deadpool 2 will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick) from a screenplay by the returning “real heroes here,” screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland). Reynolds is again serving as a producer on Deadpool 2 alongside X-Men franchise caretakers Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
