20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool movie dominated the worldwide box office for a second-straight weekend, bringing in another $55 million domestically for a North American total of $235.4 million. That means that Deadpool has already passed up X-Men: Days of Future Past‘s $233.9 million domestic total in just 10 days. Overseas, Deadpool earned $85 million its second weekend for an international total of $256.5 million and an impressive worldwide box office total of $491.9 million! The comic book adaptation is well on its way to becoming the top R-rated title ever at the global box office, a record that is still held by 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded with $742.1 million.
Deadpool, made for only $58 million, stars Ryan Reynolds as the title character alongside T.J. Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, and Ed Skrein as Ajax. The film, directed by Tim Miller and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, also features the mutant Colossus, voiced by Serbian actor Stefan Kapicic.
In its 10th weekend in theaters, Star Wars: The Force Awakens earned $3.8 million domestically and $2.6 million internationally for a global total of $6.4 million. The J.J. Abrams-directed film has now earned $921.6 million domestically and $1.118 billion internationally for a worldwide box office total of $2.039 billion. It is the #1 movie of all-time domestically, the fourth movie of all-time internationally, and the No. 3 movie of all-time worldwide.
