Over a month ago, it was revealed that the casting for Marvelâs Luke Cage was down to just two names, and now Marvel Entertainment has confirmed that Mike Colter will play the character when he debuts in next yearâs âMarvelâs A.K.A. Jessica Jones.â
âMike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,â said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. âWeâre excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.â
âFans have longed to see Luke Cage brought and in Mike weâve found the perfect actor,â said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvelâs Head of Television. âViewers will get to meet Luke Cage in âMarvelâs A.K.A. Jessica Jones,â and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.â
Colter will star alongside Krysten Ritter in the series for a few episodes before transitioning to his own Netflix series at an undisclosed time. He can be seen currently in the Microsoft Entertainment original series âHalo: Nightfallâ as Jameson Locke with previous appearances on âThe Good Wifeâ and âAmerican Horror Story: Coven.âÂ
After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
âMarvelâs A.K.A. Jessica Jonesâ is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix and is expected to debut in 2015.
