Marvel Studios’ Daredevil Synopsis Reveals Present Day Setting

Last fall, we ran a speculative piece hypothesizing that Marvel Studios’ upcoming wave of Netflix shows (to include “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist,” “Luke Cage” and “The Defenders”) might be set in the 1970s. Today, Marvel has confirmed that that will not be the case and that “Daredevil” will feature a contemporary setting.

Confirming today’s report of Charlie Cox signing on to play Matt Murdock, Marvel revealed the following official plot synopsis:

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

The 13-episode series will premiere on Netflix in 2015. Steven S. DeKnight (“Spartacus,” “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer”) will serve as showrunner and will produce alongside Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods) and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”). Goddard also scripted the first two episodes.

Check back for further details on all the Marvel Studios series as soon as they become available.
