Frank Grillo Says Captain America: The Winter Soldier is Just the Beginning for Crossbones

Marvel’s next big sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, will introduce quite a few new villains into the mix of their cinematic universe including Batroc the Leaper, The Winter Soldier, and Crossbones, played by Frank Grillo. Speaking with CraveOnline, Grillo says that, unlike many Marvel villains, this won’t be the last we see of many of the characters introduced in the film.

“It’s an origin film. You meet people who are going to be around for a while, so they introduce the characters. It’s almost like it’s a series. It’s fun. I can’t say very much about it because Marvel’s very strict about what you’re allowed to say. The movie, we’ve seen bits of it, and it is spectacular.”

Though no doubt referring to Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon, and potentially The Winter Soldier himself, when asked if Marvel has plans for Grillo to return as Crossbones, he replied:

“They do actually. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if the fans respond to Brock and how it goes.”

Grillo also spoke about the opportunity of getting to work on a Marvel film which he calls a “great opportunity.”

“For any actor, it’s huge and you really get an understanding of that when you see guys like [Robert] Redford show up to do a role. What’s happening now is I think since all the Marvel movies had such a wide range of viewers globally that you’d be crazy not to want to be involved on some level with the Marvel people. They do it like nobody else. For me it’s a great opportunity because it’s an international film. It just raises your exposure that much more.”

Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick-up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
