Comic-Con: NBC’s Heroes Returning in New Ongoing Comic Series

Earlier this year, we ran a story that NBC’s hit series Heroes might be making a come back on a different platform. Those reports weren’t totally off, but the result isn’t what we expected. Dynamite Entertainment has just announced (via CBR) a new ongoing comic series based on the property that will pick up where the series left off. The Sixth Gun creator Cullen Bunn will write the series, which is still looking for a regular artist. It will hit stores later this year.

Bunn also spoke CBR about his involvement and how he’s planning to approach the material.

“I was a faithful viewer of ‘Heroes’ when it was on television,” Bunn said. “The things that most appealed to me about this are that I like the world. I like the concept of ordinary people who discovery they have these powers and are working in a world where superheroes are not common knowledge. It’s all about normal people discovering this and the situations they get into. There are some aspects of that which are still out there to be discovered.”

“Right off the bat, Claire is going to be our point of view character. The first issue is centered more on her than anyone else. That said, you’re going to see most of those core characters early on in the first few issues. Hiro was the character I always liked most in the show for a number of reasons. So you’ll be seeing him and Sylar and a bunch of others who will get thrown back into the story early on. Claire, Hiro and Sylar will be big right off the bat, but it won’t be long before you see all the core characters.”

Created by Tim Kring, Heroes lasted for four seasons on NBC and starred Hayden Panettiere, Milo Ventimiglia, Adrian Pasdar, Leonard Roberts, Ali Larter, Cristine Rose and Zachary Quinto. The series came to an end in 2010 after 77 episodes.
