We’re really big fans of The Boys here at SuperHeroHype and when word came out a few months ago that the film by Adam McKay was dead in the water at Sony, we were crushed. We had made peace with the fact that we’ll never see Billy Butcher and Wee Hughie on the big screen, but then a glimmer of hope appeared.
Yesterday, a fan tweeted at director Adam McKay that he heard the film was done and he thought that was a bummer. McKay replied with this:
@shaunbarger Actually paramount picked it up and we’re still developing.

While this doesn’t mean they’ll be starting production on the film any time soon, it is certainly much more hopeful news than what we last heard about the movie, so fingers crossed.
With the comic book series coming to an end very soon, it makes sense that interest in the property would pick back up. The Boys revolves around the government’s decision to have the CIA monitor all superheroes using a Black Ops team called “The Boys” and what happens when a Scottish conspiracy nut named Wee Hughie, whose girlfriend was killed by a superhero, is inducted to join the group when they’re reformed to take down rogue superheroes who have gotten out of control.
