Cailee Spaeny Could Still Join MCU’s X-Men Movie, But There’s a Catch

Alien: Romulus star Cailee Spaeny might still join Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot, but there’s a catch. Her potential role in the ensemble will be very different from earlier fan expectations.

Currently, it is no secret that Marvel is aggressively recruiting their actors to assemble a cast for their X-Men lineup. With a lot of speculation going on, one particular rumor gained a lot of momentum.

Spaeny, who is well known for her roles in Priscilla, Civil War, and Alien: Romulus, was heavily favored to play the role of Rogue in X-Men. However, following Kevin Feige’s announcement at D23, it became clear that the rumors were not true and the actor will not be a part of the X-Men lineup anymore.

As per fresh updates from Knight Edge Media, Spaeny still has a chance to squeeze in. The reports have stated that the actor is in active talks with Marvel Studios.

While the news will excite fans, there is a catch: if cast, Spaeny will take on a smaller or different role than previously anticipated. Speculation has quickly shifted toward her playing Kitty Pryde or Magik, allowing her to leverage her horror background from recent films. However, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed Spaeny’s involvement.

Inde Navarrette took over Cailee Spaeny’s rumored Rogue role

At the D23, the MCU fans had some exciting announcements coming their way. As Feige took the stage, he introduced some more additions to the X-Men lineup. One particular casting caught fans’ attention significantly. It was none other than Inde Navarrette, who was cast as Rogue.

This update practically shut down the possibility of Spaeny taking the role. However, fans have high expectations for Navarrette, following her recent success in the horror movie Obsession.

At the moment, Marvel’s X-Men lineup is looking quite promising. Apart from Navaratte, Feige has also confirmed Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister. Additionally, the likes of Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), and Kit Connor (Cyclops) were all announced previously.

Marvel Studios’ untitled X-Men reboot is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
