Marvel kept Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey casting in Spider-Man: Brand New Day notoriously under wraps ahead of the movie’s release. However, the actress has revealed that some industry insiders may have gotten early intel.
In a recent interview with Variety, Sink shared that she told a few close people that she had been cast as Jean Grey in the film. Besides the actress’s family members, her Stranger Things directors, Matt and Ross Duffer, also knew the closely guarded secret.
Why Sadie Sink chose to share the secret with three people
Variety recently asked Sadie Sink who the three people she told about her Jean Grey role were. “I mean, it was definitely more than three, if I’m being honest,” the actress replied. She added, “You have people that you can trust within the industry to talk about it.”
Sink went on to share, “So, my family knew and everything, and then I slowly … Like the Duffers were some of the first few people I told.” The actress explained that she was working with the Duffer brothers on Stranger Things at the time.
“Because I was filming with them, and they’re obviously huge influences in my career and life and have watched me grow up, so I wanted them to know that that’s what I would be doing next,” Sink shared. “And they were so excited.”
The Stranger Things star also revealed how the Duffer brothers reacted after finding out about her Jean Grey casting. “Well, they were just like, “That’s the best character. You have to do it!” and like, “That’s perfect. You’re going to be amazing,”” Sink shared.
“They thought it was the right fit for me, and I trust their opinion because they love comics and stuff like that and are very well versed with these characters, so it was good to have their input,” she added.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to dominate at the box office, having crossed $1 billion worldwide. It is currently the highest-grossing film of 2026.
