Teased Spider-Verse Spin-off Movie Is the Refreshing Twist Spider-Man Needs

Sony is preparing to release its third Spider-Man animated movie, Beyond the Spider-Verse, next year. With the critical and financial success of the Spider-Verse films, Sony will likely want to continue the franchise in some way. A spin-off starring one of the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse characters might be a refreshing twist that this franchise needs.

Could Peter B. Parker be a character to receive his own movie? Jake Johnson, who voices Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man, is open to the idea if Sony figures out a way to do it.

“I know it’s hard with anything that involves Peter Parker,” Johnson told The Playlist. “But I think anything with Peter B. is a little bit trickier. But if they crack the code, I’d love to do it.”

Why should Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker should get a spin-off after Beyond the Spider-Verse

Throughout the character’s history in the MCU and the Spider-Verse movies, Spider-Man has been a teenager. Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker is a teenager in the first three Spider-Man movies, while Shameik Moore‘s Miles Morales is a high school student in the two Spider-Verse entries.

Peter B. Parker is an older version of Spider-Man who is married and has a child. How many times have fans seen the version of Spider-Man in high school or as a young adult? Too many. Exploring how Peter grapples with being Spider-Man while caring for a wife and a kid is an interesting take that fans haven’t seen in a movie. Depicting Spider-Man with a family could also be a way to bring in a new audience.

Johnson loves that his character is a parent. He’s interested in how Peter can adjust to being Spider-Man at an older age with new responsibilities.

“You know, like we got to remember that, yes, he’s a different version,” Johnson explained. “But once you have kids and you enter that phase of life, that doesn’t mean you’re dead. You might be entering an unthinkably strong period of your life. And so I hope Peter’s honored in that way. And the future that goes on for him, if it does, I want to see my Spider-Man being Spider-Man.”

Johnson’s Peter B. Parker will next be seen in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, opening in theaters on June 18, 2027.
