Avengers: Secret Wars Will Retcon Emotional MCU Moment — Report

Avengers: Secret Wars will reportedly retcon an emotional MCU moment.

Avengers: Secret Wars is the forthcoming sequel to Avengers: Doomsday. Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in post-production, will be released in December 2026, while Secret Wars arrives one year later. Both movies are being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers.

What emotional moment will Avengers: Secret Wars reportedly retcon?

While official plot details for Secret Wars remain under wraps at Marvel at this time, scooper Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus says that the movie will retcon a big moment that happens at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

In the final moments of Spider-Man: No Way Home, a spell is cast that causes Peter Parker’s closest friends — Zendaya’s Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds — to forget who he is. This plot point will seemingly play into Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be released in July 2026.

According to Perez, Avengers: Secret Wars will undo this spell.

“With the universe being destroyed and reset, the spell will ultimately be broken,” Perez said. “The memory spell was mainly a way to keep the universes at bay.”

This is only a rumor at this time, as it’s not yet clear how big a role, if any, Holland will have in the two new Avengers movies, given that his casting has not yet been announced. Perez did say, however, that he expects Holland to be one of the main characters in Secret Wars.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday will be released in United States theaters on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on December 17, 2027.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Disney+.
