A certain rumor regarding who Chris Evans is playing in Avengers: Doomsday is seeming even more likely following a new report.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday has wrapped production. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, the movie is scheduled to arrive in United States theaters in December 2026. The sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, then follows in 2027.
While Marvel has not confirmed that Evans, who previously played Steve Rogers/Captain America in the MCU, has been cast in Avengers: Doomsday, there have been numerous rumors and reports stating that he will show up. However, given that Steve became an elderly man and passed the Captain America mantle on to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame, many have wondered what kind of role Evans will have and if he’ll still be playing Cap.
Who is Chris Evans rumored to be playing in Avengers: Doomsday?
Last December, industry insider Jeff Sneider said that Evans would be playing Nomad in Avengers: Doomsday. In Marvel Comics lore, Nomad is an alternate identity that Steve adopts after he abandons the Captain America costume and title. Others — including Steve’s adopted son, Ian Rogers — have also called themselves Nomad.
Now, scooper Daniel Richtman is also reporting that Evans will be playing Nomad in Avengers: Doomsday, meaning Sneider’s scoop is seeming more and more likely to happen.
Having said that, this is just a rumor at this time and should be treated as such. In addition to Nomad, there have been rumors circulating that Evans could be playing Captain Hydra in the new Avengers movie — of course, there’s always the possibility that he could appear in more than one role, but there’s much speculation to be had until some firmer details regarding the film’s plot are released.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars is currently dated for December 17, 2027.
