A new report on the upcoming Spider-Man 4 splashes cold water on the rumors that Carrie Coon would be rejoining the MCU in a new role.
What is the latest Spider-Man 4 report?
According to a new report from Jeff Sneider, the rumors that Carrie Coon would be joining the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to play a villain are not true. Previously, Coon did appear in the MCU as Proxima Midnight in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, but was rumored to be playing a mystery villain in Brand New Day.
Coon’s rumored casting status was always a bit of a curious one. Earlier this year, comments Coon made on the pay that MCU actors get went viral. Coon also turned down a role in Avengers: Endgame due to the pay, with Coon saying that Marvel reportedly told her she should be “fortunate” to be a part of the MCU.
The Carrie Coon rumors began surfacing following reports from several insiders that the “main villain” of Brand New Day had yet to be uncovered. While there have been tons of rumors, insider Daniel Richtman noted last week that the main villain of the film is “none” of who fans have already heard about.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie will once again be led by Tom Holland as he reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalo are also expected to return for the sequel.
They will be joined by recently announced new cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), with Jon Bernthal set to make his movie debut as Frank Castle/Punisher. The latter recently played the anti-hero again in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, and Avi Arad.
Spider-Man 4 will be released in United States theaters on July 31, 2026 ahead of Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027), following Doomsday’s delay.
