A new Spider-Man 4 rumor has surfaced, teasing the actress who might play the main antagonist of the highly anticipated next installment to the Tom Holland-led franchise. Production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently underway in Glasgow. The movie will arrive in theaters on July 31, 2026.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie is led by MCU vet Tom Holland as he reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Emmy winner Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are also expected to return for the sequel. They will be joined by recently announced cast members Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), with Jon Bernthal (Daredevil: Born Again) as Frank Castle/Punisher. In addition, Avengers vet Mark Ruffalo is also being rumored to reprise his iconic role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in the fourth installment.
Who’s the potential villain joining Spider-Man 4?
During the recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, insider Jeff Sneider revealed that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures might be enlisting Emmy nominee Carrie Coon to join the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Coon has reportedly been tapped to play another Marvel villain after previously playing Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War.
“I don’t know if this is true. I haven’t vetted it at all. I heard a name. I heard an actress. She’s already talked about taking Marvel movies for the money,” Sneider said. “She has a role already in the MCU, but it was like a voice role and no one knows it was her. What if Carrie Coon is the villain?”
This is surprising especially after Coon recently revealed the reason why she declined to return for Avengers: Endgame. The White Lotus star confirmed that the company wasn’t willing to pay her more money for her appearance as Proxima Midnight, despite the experience she has an actor.
“The lesson there is that my time is more valuable elsewhere,” Coon shared in a previous interivew. “And so I part ways with this company, everybody amicably, because my time, especially as a person with a family, is more valuable than that. So it’s purely a business decision.”
