Jared Leto‘s methodical approach to acting hasn’t always sat well with his co-stars, but according to Jeff Bridges, that wasn’t the case on the set of Tron: Ares.
How did Jeff Bridges deal with Jared Leto’s method acting during filming of Tron: Ares?
Bridges revealed during Tron: Ares’ San Diego Comic-Con 2025 panel how he handled Leto’s method acting while filming the Disney sci-fi sequel.
“He’s one of those guys. Everyone has different methods and modes, man,” the actor remarked. “I didn’t want to offend him as a thespian, but I thought, ‘I wanted to have a certain intimacy with you. I know your name is Ares. Can I just call you Air?’ He said, ‘Yeah man! You can call me whatever you want!’ We had a great time.”
This isn’t the first time that one of Leto’s co-stars has addressed the actor’s method acting. The cast and crew of Suicide Squad previously disclosed that Leto, who portrayed the Joker in the 2016 DC movie, sent unorthodox gifts to his fellow cast members, including a live rat to his on-screen girlfriend, Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie.
Leto, who was also part of the Tron: Ares SDCC panel, admitted that he was nervous to share the screen with Bridges, which led to the actor actually breaking character during their first scene together. “I just blurted out, ‘cut!’ Everyone was surprised, because I don’t often do that . . . I just can’t stop smiling, because I’m working with my guy,” Leto confessed.
Tron: Ares serves as a standalone sequel to 2010’s Tron: Legacy, with Bridges’ Kevin Flynn so far confirmed to be the only returning franchise character. In the sci-fi movie, the highly sophisticated program Ares (Leto) is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
Joachim Rønning, who previously directed the Disney hits Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, helmed Tron: Ares, which was written by Jesse Wigutow. Besides Leto and Bridges, the Tron: Ares cast includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.
Tron: Ares is scheduled to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
