Superman Cast Confirms Violent Krypto Scene Was Cut From DCU Movie

The cast of Superman has confirmed that a violent scene involving Krypto was cut from the DCU movie after test screenings.

James Gunn’s Superman movie hits theaters in less than two weeks. The film stars David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Much of the marketing for Superman has also revolved around Krypto, Clark Kent/Superman’s adorable superpowered dog.

What scene was cut from Superman?

Speaking with Jake Hamilton on Jake’s Takes, María Gabriela de Faría and Sara Sampaio confirmed that a scene where Ultraman punches Krypto was removed from the movie.

“Apparently, it did really bad in the test screenings,” Sampaio said.

“It’s not okay,” de Faría, who plays The Engineer, added. “You can’t punch a dog.”

Speaking about her own scenes with Krypto in the film, de Faría continued, “Okay, no — I did not punch the dog. The dog attacked me first.”

Sampaio is playing Eve Teschmacher in the film, while the cast also includes Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Terence Rosemore as Otis, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.

The official synopsis for Superman reads, “Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”

Superman flies into United States theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
