James Gunn has commented on Batman’s possible DCU suit.
Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially launched in December 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos series. The first DCU movie, Superman, is now releasing in United States theaters in less than two weeks. That will be followed by Peacemaker Season 2 in August 2025 and Supergirl in June 2026.
Many DC fans have been wondering when Batman will officially join the DCU. The Dark Knight made a quick cameo in Creature Commandos; however, he didn’t have any speaking lines, and the role has not yet been cast.
It’s also not immediately clear what live-action DCU project Batman will first appear in, though it is known that a The Brave and the Bold movie is in the works.
What did James Gunn say about Batman’s DCU costume?
Speaking with CBR, Gunn said that there are “no decisions made about the costume at all yet.”
However, when asked if he liked the Dark Knight’s gray and blue costume in DC Comics, Gunn said, “I do! But I like the other versions, too. I like many different versions. I’m a Batman superfan. And so I like all the different versions of the Batman suit…I don’t know what we are going to do. I didn’t know we were going to do the trunks [on Superman] until the last minute on this movie. I wanted to do the trunks. But I wasn’t sure it was going to work.”
David Corenswet is playing the Man of Steel in Superman, while Rachel Brosnahan portrays Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult stars as Lex Luthor. Superman flies into United States theaters on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios.
The Brave and the Bold, meanwhile, does not have a release date at this time, though it is known that the movie is being directed by The Flash’s Andy Muschietti.
