A new rumor regarding a Thor MCU project has emerged online.
Chris Hemsworth has played Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011. He’s gone on to star in a number of stand-alone and ensemble movies, the most recent of which was 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
Hemsworth is now returning for Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently in production and will be released in 2026. What Marvel has planned for the God of Thunder beyond that is unclear at this time; however, a new rumor suggests another Thor project may be in the works.
What is the rumored title of the new Thor MCU project?
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is developing a new MCU project called Thor Quest.
No further details beyond that were provided. This is merely a rumor at this time that should be taken with a grain of salt, as there has been no formal announcement about a Thor Quest project, and Hemsworth’s only confirmed return to the MCU is in Avengers: Doomsday.
Having said that, Thor Quest is also the name of a 2023 children’s book by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Billy Young. That novel follows Thor, Loki, and Sir when they were children — meaning, if Thor Quest were to really be an MCU project that’s being developed, it could be a prequel that would feature a younger cast.
Another rumor that has emerged recently is that the Thor Corps will have a role to play in Avengers: Secret Wars, which arrives a year after Doomsday. If this turns out to be true, they could also factor into Thor Quest in some capacity.
For now, fans can catch Hemsworth back in the role of Thor when Avengers: Doomsday hits United States theaters on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars then follows on December 17, 2027.
