The MCU Blade movie may finally be moving forward.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige announced that Mahershala Ali would play Blade in a new MCU movie back in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. Ali had an uncredited voice cameo in 2021’s Eternals; however, development on a stand-alone Blade movie has been an uphill battle, as the project has hit speed bump after speed bump.
The movie previously had a November 2025 release date; however, it was removed from Marvel Studios’ release calendar in 2024. Since then, there’s been little concrete news about the Blade movie, leading many to suspect the film would never see the light of day.
What is the latest Blade update?
David S. Goyer wrote the screenplay for the original Blade trilogy starring Wesley Snipes, which includes 1998’s Blade, 2002’s Blade II, and 2004’s Blade: Trinity, the latter of which Goyer also directed.
Goyer previously said that, given all the pre-production issues the MCU movie was having, many friends, fans, and people on social media have asked him if he’d be open to returning to the franchise, at least to help Marvel get the project on the right track.
Per Variety, Goyer said that he now has indeed reached out to Marvel; however, they told him that they don’t need his help at this time.
“I had my agent call Marvel and say, ‘Do you guys need any help?’ And they said, ‘We love you, but we think we’ve cracked it now, and we’re in a good place.’ And then the latest thing happened. And so no, they haven’t contacted me,” Goyer said.
Given that this news comes from Goyer and not anyone actively involved with the project, it’s hard to say how actively Blade is being developed; however, the notion that Marvel may have finally “cracked” the code is at least somewhat hopeful. Goyer also said that, while he doesn’t know any of the behind-the-scenes happenings on the movie, he’d still consider aiding the film, should he be asked.
Blade does not have a release date at this time.
