Ben Stiller is ready to step into The Twilight Zone, according to a new report.
What do we know about The Twilight Zone movie?
According to a recent report from The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider, Stiller is in talks to direct a long-in-development The Twilight Zone movie. The film is mostly wrapped in mystery, but Sneider notes that Stiller — who directed most of Apple’s hit thriller Severance — has been tapped to oversee the project.
Sneider’s report says that Stiller has been on the project for about six months already, and is currently still in the “open writing assignment phase,” so no official plot details or information is available.
This is The Twilight Zone movie that has been in development for some time, and comes from Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way production company. The movie has cycled through various directors over the last 15 years, with Matt Reeves and Joseph Kosinski both tapped to direct at some point. Similarly, the film has gone through a variety of writers, with Aron Eli Colette, Christine Lavar, Rand Ravich, and Joby Harold all having been attached at one point.
It’s unclear exactly whether or not the film will adapt any of The Twilight Zone’s iconic stories, but Sneider’s report notes that the general plan for now is to tell one single story, rather than several different ones like the 1983 film. The report notes that the film might follow the story of a fighter pilot who, after testing a rocket capable of going faster than light, finds himself transported 125 years into the future.
The Twilight Zone is one of the most iconic pieces of entertainment in the world. Created in 1959 by Rod Serling, the anthology series often focused on stories of people finding themselves in disturbing or unusual events, taking place within “The Twilight Zone.” The episodes tackled various genres, including science fiction, fantasy, dystopian fiction, horror, black comedy, supernatural elements, and more.
More than 150 episodes of the show ran on CBS between 1959-1964, and several revivals have happened over the years. The most recent was in 2019, with a series executive produced by Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg, and Marco Ramirez.
